description

Poloniæ Regnum ut et Magni Ducatus Lithuaniæ

1727-32 Matthaus Seutter: “Poloniæ Regnum ut et Magni Ducatus Lithuaniæ,” Augsburg, 50 x 58 cm, in the first state, on the top row, with only numbers on the border scales. The second state of the plate has added letters to the border scales. The third state has additional verbiage not only as the last line of the cartouche: “SAC.CNS. MAJ. GEOGR. AUG.” but also an additional two lines of verbiage under the cartouche. See the claimed 1735 and 1740 second state examples, and a 1740 third state. In 1762 Probst bought half of Seutters plates and reissued them. See the c. 1770 version of this map with Probst’s name in the Baltic – a Fifth State!
