LIVONIÆ PROVINCIAE…MOSCOVIÆ MAXIMI…, 1593

First published in Antwerp in 1578, this 32.5 x 50.0 cm (12.8 x 19.7 inch) copper engraving of two adjoining maps was published in 1593 in de Jode’s “Speculum Orbis Terrarum.” The map on the right shows the eastern extent of “LITVANIAE” on the left map, “LITUANIÆ” on the right map, although the colorist failed to use the same color on all the Grand Duchy’s area. This 1593 map can be distinguished from the 1578 version only by the page number and the bookbinders signature on the verso, which is shown.
