Antwerp, 19.5 x 14.5 inches, in three versions. The Dutch engravers were the famous Joannes and Lucas van Deutecum. First published 1578, De Jode’s “Speculum Orbis Terrae atlas was, while technically superior to the work of Ortelius, a commercial failure, thanks to Ortelius’ blocking a “privilege” for publication for nearly ten years. All three maps are from the second, expanded edition of the atlas.
